Louisiana Travel | Up Close and Personal at the Zoo of Acadiana BY: Susan Arcement

For a fun day at the zoo, you’ll want to go to the Zoo of Acadiana near Lafayette.  Even in the heat of a South Louisiana summer, the zoo’s shady meandering paths keep things at an acceptable temp.

You get close-up views of animals like our llama friend above.  We fell in love with the pig in the petting zoo and the bossy goat who wants all the attention to herself!  Don’t miss hand-feeding colorful lory parrots at Lory Landing or the 15-minute Antelope Express Train Ride for an extra peek at zoo animals you won’t see on a walk-through.

If you have kids, a must stop is the humongous Jungle Lodge Playground with all its slides, crawls, tubes, rock walls, hideouts and bridges!

Though smaller than big-city zoos like Audubon in New Orleans, this privately-owned zoo has plenty of variety with over 500 animals representing over 150 species.  Actually, without the big-city crowds, Zoo of Acadiana gives you an intimacy and peaceful, relaxing experience you can’t get any where else!

What Cajun Daughters Love about Zoo of Acadiana: With zoo animals up-close and winding trails where you meet few people, you feel like you’re in your own little Garden of Eden.  Jungle Lodge Playground is awesome — makes you wish you were a kid again!
