Louisiana Travel | St. John Parish Andouille Festival BY: Susan Arcement

The St. John Parish Andouille Festival is one of the biggest festivals in the area.  The kids love the carnival rides and games while the parents can listen and dance to popular area musicians.

Since the festival is held the same weekend as the Oak Alley Arts and Crafts Festival across the river, you’ll find only a few crafters.  They’re selling mostly fleur de lis items and your favorite Saints player’s t-shirts in so many different styles it’s hard to decide which to get.

As always, there’s plenty of food!  A lot of which incorporates their festival’s main ingredient – Andouille — the Cajun’s famous seasoned, smoked sausage.  Try the andouille gumbo or andouille pizza, chicken and andouille gumbo or andouille corndog.

Sit at one of the nearby picnic tables and enjoy your meal while listening to live music from the bandstand.

There’s plenty of fun to be had at the St. John Parish Andouille Festival and it’s all for a good cause – the Andouille Festival raised money for the LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department.
