Louisiana Travel : Shrimp and Petroleum Festival

Shrimp and Petroleum Festival
Morgan City, Louisiana

Voted 2011 Festival of the Year in its division by the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals, The Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in Morgan City is the state’s oldest chartered harvest festival. Held every Labor Day weekend, tens of thousands enjoy the festivities at this free event.  Free music concerts–Zydeco, Cajun, country, and popular–play throughout the weekend on two separate stages.  There’s plenty of Cajun and festival food, arts & crafts booths, a carnival street fair, Fireworks on the River, the historic Blessing of the Fleet and water parade, and a Children’s Village where every child that visits the Village leaves with a prize. Saturday is designated “Children’s Day” with plenty of field events, games, professional storytellers, and the Children’s Day Mini Street Parade.  Go to the festival website to find out more about these events and many more happening this Labor Day weekend.
