Ormond Plantation

Built in 1789, Ormond Plantation is the oldest French West Indies-style Creole plantation on the Mississippi.  The house was constructed using bricks between cypress studs, called “briquettes entre poteaux” meaning “brick between posts” on the front and rear walls with a type of adobe filling on the sidewalls.

The plantation is a bed and breakfast and open for tours daily.  The plantation’s restaurant is open for lunch during the week.  Also, the grounds of Ormond Plantation are the home of the weekly German Coast Farmers Market which was voted #1 Favorite Farmers’ Market in Louisiana in 2010.
