Brimstone Museum

Herman Frasch developed the Frasch process of sulphur mining based on the priniciple that sulphur will become a liquid if superheated.  The Brimstone Museum illustrates the process and how sulphur played a role in the development of the city of Sulphur.  By the way, sulphur is also known as brimstone, thus the name of the museum.

The museum also displays the work of local artists throughout the year.

Henning Cultural Center

Right next door is the Henning Cultural Center which seeks to preserve and enrich the culture of Southwest Louisiana through featuring cultural traveling exhibits from around the country as well as locally.

In 1867, Reverand John T. Henning moved to the Sulphur area where he organized the Methodist Society at Rose Bluff, six miles south of Sulphur. He served as circuit pastor in Westlake and Sulphur and at the Sulphur Mines.  The Henning Cultural Center is the Reverand’s former home which he built in 1904.
