Bayou Lafourche Folklife and Heritage Museum

The Bayou Lafourche Folklife & Heritage Museum is located in downtown Lockport’s quaint historic district.  The museum focuses on the history of Bayou Lafourche from where it begins in Donaldsonville to its wide mouth in the Gulf of Mexico.  Bayou Lafourche’s history unfolds on the screen of an old-time panorama, Bayou Excursion – 1910, activated by turning a ship’s wheel.  Exhibits on the history of the sugar cane industry and Indian artifacts tell the story of Bayou Lafourche’s earliest inhabitants, the Houmas Indians.
