Louisiana Travel | Patterson’s Cypress Sawmill Festival Has Something for Everyone BY: Susan Arcement

Honoring a turn-of-the-century local industry, this family-friendly festival packs a lot of activity into a 3-day weekend!  Young and old and every age in between will find plenty to enjoy.

Sports enthusiasts can tee up for the Cypress Sawmill Golf Tournament at the Audubon Trail Golf Course Atchafalaya at Idlewild, one of the best golf courses in the state.  If softball’s your game, the Sawmill Festival Softball Tournament/Hooter’s National Championship Series is played festival weekend in the three lighted ball parks.

Foodies have plenty of great food to choose from at the Cajun and other ethnic food booths.  Some of the best cooks around square off at the annual Gumbo Cookoff.  Of course, the kids and teens love the street fair with rides and carnival games.  Children love Zoo-Zoom, the free petting zoo. Dad can visit the Old Engine Display and Classic Car and Truck Display while mom’s browsing the arts & crafts booths under the huge tent.

Don’t miss the chain saw carving at the All American Professional Lumber Jack Show.   It’s amazing what these lumberjacks can do with a chainsaw!  Of course, there’s always good live music playing and dancing all weekend long.

What Cajun Daughters love about the Cypress Sawmill Festival: Kemper Williams Park, where this festival is held each year, is beautifully kept with great facilities.  Love that everyone in the family can enjoy this festival because there is such a variety of great activities all weekend long.
