Nathan Abshire Museum

The museum, located in Nathan Abshire’s house, showcases the musician’s personal relics as well as other musicians from Basile.

Abshire was best known for his accordian playing. He was one of the two musicians responsible for the renaissance of the accordion in Cajun music in the 1940s.  In 1949, he released his best-selling album, “Pine Grove Blues.”  In the 60s and 70s, he frequently performed in festivals around the country in an effort to make Cajun music more widely known.  Abshire is a member of the Cajun Music Hall of Fame.
