Louisiana Travel : Louisiana Cotton Festival

Louisiana Cotton Festival
Ville Platte, Louisiana

Have a Cotton Pickin’ Good Time at the 58th annual Louisiana Cotton Festival!  The week-long festivities begin on Tuesday with the Contradanse. On Wednesday, the carnival opens and the local 4-H Club holds a cooking contest and pet show.

Enjoy the fais do do on Friday night where local bands entertain fair goers.  Beauties vie for the title of Cotton Queen on Saturday and that night the loveliest lady is picked as Cotton Queen.  Sunday has the beautiful harvest mass and colorful parade of floats, visiting queens, marching bands, antique cars and silvery-knighted Tournoi riders.

The festival’s climactic conclusion is the Louisiana Tournoi De La Ville Platte where 20 knights meet on the field to do battle with the 7 enemies of cotton — boll weevil, boll worm, nylon, rayon, silk, flood and drought.
