Louisiana Travel : Laotian New Year Celebration

Laotian New Year Celebration
Coteau, Louisiana

Lanexang Village was created in the 1980s by Laos refugees that fled the fighting in Southeast Asia.  The village celebrates the new year every Easter weekend with a three-day festival that includes live music, a beauty pageant, parade, sand castle building, and kids activities.  Several vendors will be selling clothes, jewelry, music and food from Southeast Asia.

Folklife in Louisiana has a great article on this Laotian celebration: www.louisianafolklife.org/LT/Articles_Essays/laotian.html
