For a friendly, down-home (or should I say, down the bayou) atmosphere and great Cajun food, try That Place just south of Thibodaux. Chef JP puts an innovative spin on traditional seafood and meat dishes. Red Pepper & Lime Grilled Shrimp and the Kickin’ Cane Grilled Chicken Salad are on the menu alongside other original dishes as well as fried seafood and hamburgers. The menu at That Place is fun to read with its inventive names and descriptions sure to make you hungry.
Our very favorite are the Beaucoup Beignets – Chef JP’s inspiration from his great grandmother on his mother’s side. The Cajun Trinity is a combination of three delicious seafood-filled savory beignets — the Crawfish Trap which is a beignet stuffed with crawfish tails, smothered onions and mozzarella cheese and topped with a crawfish and parmesan cheese sauce; the Crab Trap, a crab meat, sautéed onions and peppers stuffed beignet with garlic cream cheese; and the Shrimp Net – a beignet stuffed with petit shrimp in a cheesy alfredo sauce. The Cajun Trinity goes great with the Cajun Bird Nest – thinly sliced onion rings made with That Place’s special batter and served with their very own Hurricane Bite Sauce. Of course, dinner would not be complete without dessert — chocolate beignets with white chocolate filling and covered in the traditional powered sugar.
Chef JP has been in the food business for 20 years. It was his dream to open a restaurant and often he’ll be seen stopping by guests’ tables and chatting. That Place has been open for nearly 2 years in Thibodaux and it’s great food and friendly service has made it a favorite of locals. Houma residents will soon be able to enjoy That Place closer to home. Chef JP has announced that he plans on opening a second location at the Quality Inn (old Holidome) in Houma sometime in November.
