Louisiana Travel | Frisco Fest at San Francisco Plantation BY: Susan Arcement

The Bavarian-inspired beauty of the East Bank, San Francisco Plantation is the site for the annual springtime Frisco Fest.  This Spring Garden and Craft Festival offers over a hundred crafters and artists, Master Gardener Clinics and plant sales, and kids’ activities including pony rides, a petting zoo and inflatables.

Saturday features the 25-mile Tour De’ San Francisco Bike Tour along scenic River Road, the Cruisin’ the Plantation Car Show and the Crackin’ Contest.  On Sunday, there’s the 1-mile Fun Run and 5K Race.  After the popular Chef’s Choice Cookoff, you can purchase the participants’ delicious food offerings just in time for lunch.  A live band performs on Sunday afternoon.

Tours of the home are reduced for the festival.

What Cajun Daughters love about the Frisco Fest: The house itself!  Built in 1856, the vividly-colored San Francisco is the belle of the East Bank.  Known for its elaborate detail work, you’ll see hand-painted ceilings and faux marbling and wood grain throughout the house.  It is one of the most beautiful and ornate plantation homes in the area.  If you love touring plantation homes, you don’t want to miss San Francisco.
