Louisiana Travel | Destrehan Plantation Fall Festival

Located on the grounds of Destrehan Plantation, the Destrehan Fall Arts and Crafts Festival is so much more than an arts and crafts show.  There’s food, music, and entertainment, too!

Over 150 booths are scattered on the oak-shaded front lawn of this French Colonial style plantation on the banks of the Mississippi River.  Vendors selling the ever-popular fleur de leis to candles to woodwork to jewelry, only names a few of the many items available to buy.

Free period craft demonstrations are held throughout the grounds.  For a glimpse into the Destrehan family’s life during the 1800s, take a tour of the main house.  Built in 1787, Destrehan Plantation is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest documented plantation house in the lower Mississippi River Valley.

Behind the home and crafts area, the huge, shaded grounds cover a kiddie area with a bounce house, face painting, Euro-bungy jumping, and pony rides.  A little further is the huge Mule Barn where antique vendors sell everything from kitchen plates and gadgets to furniture.

Every good festival has food and entertainment.  At the Cajun and Creole Food Pavilion, it’s a seafood extravaganza!  There’s plenty of shrimp, crab and crawfish dishes and even alligator sausage on the grill.  We’ve never been disappointed in the food here at Destrehan.  Grab a plate of stuffed crab covered in a cream shrimp sauce and take a seat at one of the many picnic tables.  If there’s no spot available, there are plenty of hay bales where you can get comfortable and listen to a live band as you enjoy your meal.

What Cajun Daughters love about Destrehan Plantation Fall Festival: One of our favorite local arts and crafts shows!  The grounds are so huge, no matter how big the crowd, you never feel crowded.  The grounds are beautifully shaded.  There’s a variety of things to do.  The Destrehan Plantation Fall Festival is a very pleasant way to spend your day.
