Louisiana Travel : Cypress Sawmill Festival

Cypress Sawmill Festival
Patterson, Louisiana

Honoring a turn-of-the-century local industry, this family-friendly festival packs a lot of activity into a 3-day weekend!  There’s a midway with carnival rides and games, continuous live music including the Country Showdown on Friday, arts and crafts show under the big tent, a professional lumber jack show and passé partout contest, free petting zoo, old engine display, classic car and truck display, the gumbo cook-off, and softball, fishing and golf tournaments, a fun walk and poker run, a fireworks show on Saturday, and more.  Of course, there’s always good Cajun and festival food available when you get hungry.

The Cypress Sawmill Festival was founded in 1990 to help raise money to build a museum.  In 2006, the community’s dream was realized with the opening of the Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum.  Make sure you take the time to visit the museum (free admission) located on the grounds, adjacent to the Patterson Civic Center.
