THIBODAUX, LOUISIANA

Louisiana Travel | Cherry Books BY: Susan Arcement

Looking for a favorite Cajun author or book?  Look no further than our own local Thibodaux bookstore, Cherry Books.  Cherry Books has all things Cajun in any genre you can wish for — cookbooks, history, genealogy, fiction, children’s books.  You can also find music cds of local artists.  Handmade wooden bookmarks with Louisiana motifs made by local artists are for sale.

The building itself has its own character.  The cozy bookstore interior walls have the original exposed bricks with a plank board ceiling. Local shoe cobbler, Sam Cherry, built the two-story building in 1952 for his shoe business.  On display are old shoes that were found in the old shoe building during renovations.

A children’s play area has children’s books and toys to purchase as well as legos and a kitchen set for children to play with.  Comfortable chairs are found around the bookstore for adults to rest and read a favorite book.

Local authors host book signings and children enjoy story times during the month at the bookstore.  You can find a schedule of events on their website at www.cherry-books.com.

Other services this hometown bookstore offers: If you don’t live in the area, you can still buy books and ebooks online from Cherry Books.  Also, they’ll buy your used books for book credits.

What Cajun Daughters Love about Cherry Books:  Cozy, quaint bookstore offers nice place to relax and enjoy book hunting and reading. Best place to find local books!
