Bocage Plantation

Bocage Plantation is said to be the most original interpretation of the American Greek Revival style in America.  The plantation was given as a wedding gift from the legendary River Road magnate, Marius Pons Bringier, to his daughter Fanny and new husband Christophe Colomb, a Parisian.  The mansion was renovated in 1837 for their son Luis Arthur and his wife, Mathilde, under the direction of nationally acclaimed architect, James Dakin.  (Dakin was the architect of the old Louisiana State Capitol building in Baton Rouge that was built to look like a medieval castle overlooking the Mississippi River.)

Tours of the plantation are offered Wednesday through Sunday starting at noon.  Bocage, traditionally translated as “Shady Retreat,” is also an elegant bed and breakfast.

Bocage is a living museum where guests experience 19th century living at its finest.  Guests sleep on Mallard beds and are served breakfast on Limoges China with sterling silver flatware in the Napoleon Dining Room.  For elegance and romance, stay at the “Shady Retreat” that is Bocage.
