Susan, how much water do you put in your Seafood Gumbo?  The recipe looks delicious.

Gumbo is really a soup so it’ll be much thinner than a stew.  I put enough water to make the mixture soupy but still have some texture. Just add water until you get it to the consistency you want.  You can always add more water as you’re cooking.  By the way, okra and file are added to gumbos to act as thickeners.
