2 lb. lean ground beef
½ cup chopped onions
½ cup chopped shallots
3 ribs celery, chopped
½ cup chopped bell pepper
1 large can tomato sauce
1 small can tomato paste
2 cups water
½ teaspoon basil
½ teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon parsley flakes
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
1 large can mushroom pieces
1 teaspoon sugar


Brown ground beef in large cast iron pot. Drain.

Add onions, shallots, bell pepper, and celery. Saute until seasonings are wilted. Add tomato sauce and paste to mixture. Add water and stir thoroughly. Add basil, oregano, parsley, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, mushrooms, and sugar. Stir well. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for at least 1 hour. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving.

Serve over hot boiled spaghetti.
