Field Peas


4-6 oz. salted pork meat
1/8 cup cooking oil
1 medium onion, chopped
4 cups field peas
4 cloves minced garlic
salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste


1. Boil 4-6 oz. of salt meat about 10-15 minutes. Throw out water and rinse meat.

2. Add about 1/8 cup cooking oil to pot and fry down salt meat and a medium chopped onion.

3. Add 4 cups field peas and add water to cover. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer, covered (but not tightly) for about 1-1/2 hours or until peas are tender and water is boiled down. Add water as necessary while simmering. Add 4 cloves minced garlic and salt and pepper to taste while simmering. Add garlic powder or more minced garlic if needed.
