Crumb Top Apple Pie


6 – 8 cooking apples
2/3 cup sugar
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons cold water
1 stick butter
½ cup brown sugar
1 cup sifted flour
Pinch of salt


Peel and core apples and slice into a loaf pan. Over the apples sprinkle sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and cold water.

In another bowl mix butter, brown sugar, flour, and a pinch of salt with fingertips until it is the consistency of coarse meal. Sprinkle this over the apples.

Bake at 300 degrees for 50 – 60 minutes.

Serve hot or cold with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
