Crispy Molasses Cookies


1 cup molasses
½ cup melted shortening
3 cups sifted flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon cloves
¾ teaspoon salt


Mix molasses and shortening thoroughly. Sift the remaining ingredients together and add to molasses/shortening.

Chill several hours or overnight.

Roll thin on floured board. Cut with cookie cutters and bake on cookie sheets at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes. Decorate some cookies with colored sugar before baking or decorate with icing after baking.
