Bread Pudding with Meringue

INGREDIENTS:

9 slices of bread, broken in pieces
4 egg yolks
1 large can evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons almond extract
1 ½ cups sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted

 

Meringue:

4 eggs whites
8 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

DIRECTIONS:

Combine all ingredients and pour into large greased baking dish. Bake 15 minutes at 450 degrees.

Meringue:
Beat egg whites until stiff. Gradually add sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

Top bread pudding with meringue and return to oven until meringue is lightly browned.
