Blackberry Dumplings


1 qt. berries
½  cup sugar or more
¼ cup water
Dash of salt
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
1 ½ tablespoon firm butter
½ cup + 1 tablespoon milk


Put berries, sugar, water and dash of salt into large pot, covering tightly. Simmer 3 minutes.

Sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder together. Cut in butter until mixture forms rice-sized pieces. Add milk and stir quickly for 30 seconds with fork.

Drop from teaspoon into simmering berries, dipping spoon each time into hot sauce before dipping into batter.

Cover tightly. Simmer over very low heat 20 minutes. Do not stir during this cooking period.
